Tropical cradle of Agricultural Rum
Located in the heart of the Caribbean, it is in Macouba in the north-east of the island of Martinique (France) between the Roches River and the Macouba River that the Fonds-Préville Distillery was established in 1845. It is nestled at the foot of Mount Pelee in a green setting of incredible biodiversity.
The cane fields are in the immediate vicinity of the distillery; located in the middle of the 300 hectares of the Fonds-Préville estate created in 1790.

Considered by the press and connoisseurs as the ‘best old rum in the world’, J.M creations have a unique flavour. Their superior quality is the result of proven know-how for several generations and a tenacious desire to preserve artisanal exploitation and production methods. The wild richness of this preserved terroir, its generous nature, its rich volcanic soil, its contrasting climate, its naturally filtered pure water and its extremely fresh sugar cane give all its character to this Martinique Agricultural Rum.
Rhum J.M is an exquisite Agricole White Rhum distilled on the Caribbean island of Martinique, located in the northeast in Macouba, the sugar cane grows on 28-degree vertical slopes in rich volcanic soil at the foot of Mount Pelee. Rhum J.M are the only distillery that uses canes cultivated and harvested from its own estate. Distilled in traditional Creole column stills.
Created to represent the extraordinary environment where it was produced, Rhum JM’s Terroir Volcanique is a column still rhum agricole that has matured in charred American oak casks. So named because the distillery is located at the foot of Mount Pelee where mineral-rich water and soil make the terroir ideal for cultivating sugar cane and distilling it into fine rhum.

The result, a Rhum of spicy character, smooth stylish with delicate wood impressions. Aged 100 percent in re-charred Bourbon barrels, the elegant copper tone precedes a gorgeous rhum on the palate. It has a generous bouquet of toasted nut, lemon and sage on the nose, which compliments the chewy sweet cake as well as the mango and passion fruit flavours. “L’Atelier des Rhums” is the result of an exclusive barrel work fulfilled by our cellar master, Karine Lassalle. While exploring the multiple possibilities offered by different juices, heating techniques, types of wood and barrel capacities, three blends with exceptional and unique aromatic profiles stood out to create «L’Atelier des Rhums».
Jardin Fruité, Fumée Volcanique and Épices Créoles are primarily intended for bar professionals and amateurs who wish to explore the know-how of Rhum J.M through new cocktail creations but can also be enjoyed neat or on the rock by any aged spirit enthusiasts
We relied on the expertise of Joseph Akhavan (founder and chief barman of Mabel in Paris), to create the signature cocktails of ‘‘L’Atelier des Rhums’’ and thus highlight all the versatility of these three rums.
NOSE : SWEET AND CAPTIVATING WITH NOTES OF SALTED CARAMEL AND POWERFUL SMOKINESS. WHEN STIRRED, THE AROMATIC PROFILE OF WHITE RHUM AGRICOLE RESURFACES WITH FRESH AROMAS OF LIME, CANE FLOWER, HONEY AND STAR ANISE.
MOUTH : marked by the smoothness and volume of the smoky notes. Honey, star anise and empyreumatic notes provide a nice texture.
FINISH : Long on smoky notes.
