May 17th is World Whisky Day – a day that encourages lovers of the spirit to branch out and sample bottles from around the world. Leading independent spirits distributor, Mangrove Global, has marked the occasion with fresh wins across its World Whisky portfolio, including a new supermarket listing for Danish whisky Stauning HØST and expanded distribution for Indian whisky Indri-Trini.

Meaning ‘Harvest’ in Danish, Stauning HØST is a combination of rye and single malt, designed to honour the natural beauty of the surrounding the distillery in Western Denmark. The liquid is complex, smooth, and balanced – the reason behind the brand’s latest listing in 196 Tesco stores. A suitable spirit for connoisseurs and beginners alike, it’s a fruit-forward spirit with floral undertones. On the nose you can expect notes of vanilla, beeswax, and citrus, followed by meadow honey, toffee, apple, and red berries – with a syrupy cinnamon, oak and subtly spiced finish. The 70cl bottle retails at £47.

Indri Trini was first listed in selected Tesco stores in September 2024, but the supermarket has now increased its distribution to 151 stores nationwide. Crafted at the Piccadily Distillery in the village of Indri, Haryana, India, Trini is aged in three separate casks, a ‘three wood marriage’, that results in a fruity, sweet, and nutty flavour profile. The spirit is a delicious example of Indian Single Malt using heritage 6-row barley that has been grown and cultivated locally in the area of Rajasthan for thousands of years. The 70cl bottle retails at £45.

As a category, whisky is enjoying an ongoing diversification as countries all over the world craft spirits that are representative of their region, local ingredients, and traditions. This movement is attracting more traditional drinkers as they seek new experiences from international producers.

Nick Gillett, Managing Director of Mangrove Global commented:

World Whisky Day is a day to celebrate the many diverse brands from around the world. At Mangrove, we have a stellar team behind our world whisky portfolio. Together they’re driving the momentum for these spirits across new demographics and amongst traditional drinkers in equal measure. But seeing these spirits represented on local supermarket shelves is just as important in driving that awareness.

We’re delighted to see these SKUs represented in Tesco, joining BEARFACE Canadian Whiskey which was listed in February last year.

But the distributor isn’t just generating wins for its World Whiskies. Mangrove has also recently secured a listing for Saint Lucian rum, Chairman’s Reserve Original, which, from 14th April, became available nationwide in 449 Tesco stores. This was the second of the brand’s SKUs to hit supermarkets, with Chairman’s Reserve Spiced already available in 139 Waitrose stores. Tesco’s introduction of independent brands like those listed above is testament to their championing a truly diverse range, one that gives consumers a better choice of spirits that’s driven by quality – not just by price.
